10/16/2015

Monday I quit my job! No more Croydon! No more not getting paid and no more 1.5 hours of commuting! Monday night we were planning on cleaning but Damien's mum came over for dinner so they talked while I organised all of our gear from the trip and wash the tent. I felt productive. So it was a good night for all.
Tuesday was uneventful. I don't even remember what I did after work :(
Wednesday I went to the doctor they told be that I had kidney stones and sent me home. I got pizza for dinner and then broke my phone. Bummer!
Thursday I had a dinner meeting on the other side of the city. I left work at 3 to get to the 4:30 meeting. I was low on gas so I stopped to fill up. After putting $30 worth of gas in my car I realised that I didn't have my wallet. Oops. Luckily all I needed to do was give them a credit card number. Anyone's credit card number. 10 minutes and a few phone calls later I was back on my way. The few minutes it took me to get gas put my arrival time from4:20 to 5:15 so I got to sit in traffic for a while. But I did get to miss the boring part of the meeting while enjoying all of the food :)
Friday was my friend's last day working with me in the nursing home. To celebrate we went out for waffles at a place called Waffee. We split 6 waffles. They were delicious. The coffee was questionable.

Friday was also date night. I got home from work, changed and met Damien in the city. I was all nicely dressed up and Damien wore his Friday casuals. What a bum. We went to a fancy place called cumulus-like the cloud. The restaurant was posh but not nearly as cute as you are picturing. We had a delicious dinner of lamb, carrots, asparagus, and cauliflower. With cheese for dessert.
I got a glass of wine poured from a massive bottle.
Saturday we went shopping. Well first we went out to brunch at beatrix. Beatrix is a great bakery that also serves 2 sandwiches per day. If you want to find out what they are you either have to go there or look on face book. They were amazing. We also got a bit of raspberry walnut cake.
Next to Beatrix there was a pop-up sale where someone was just selling things in the median.
I got a pair of shoes, a shirt and an apron for $3.
I needed a new watch so we strolled and shopped our way around the city. We went to wunderkarma, a history of photography museum and my favourite jewellery store before getting lost in board games.
We got a new powergrid board, the Halloween pieces for ticket to ride, and a new game called pandemic. Pandemic is a board game that is the opposite of plague. In the game there are 4 diseases threatening humanity and you have to work collaboratively with the other players to cure the diseases. It is an all win or all lose game. After purchasing the games we went to Dan's house and spent the rest of the day playing pandemic and carcassone.
Sunday started with a bit of housework and got to the market around 12pm. By that point almost all the vendors were sold out but I did manage to get some new plant. In the afternoon we went for a run it was supposed to be 15km, half way through Damo talked me into doing 21km but at 11km I suddenly felt terrible and we walked back to the car. It was ok because it was a beautiful walk.
That's the week.

This week has been a bit more relaxed. Monday I didn't have any patients. Not one. I went in for 2 they both didn't show up. No money for maddie :( Monday evening I made curry and we played pandemic.
Tuesday I had a very annoying day at work but then I went climbing and climbed all my stress away. There is a new climb that is fairly difficult and I have been struggling with it for weeks but I'm starting to do it more smoothly now.
Wednesday was ride to work day. I rode the 38km to work in Croydon. It took me 3 hours but that's because I stopped for ride to work breakfast 4 times. I couldn't find the first one, the second two were lovely and I picked up some reflectors and I was too late for the last one. Again I had 2 no shows at work which was very annoying but I did see a few people. I didn't finish work until 7pm so I took the train home. It reminded me why I have a car. Bike home:2hours, train home 1.5hours plus trip to the station, car 45 minutes. Even getting home at 8:30 I beat Damien. He has been working really hard recently. Big spread sheets to do.
Thursday I did not have a good morning. I went to the wrong facility then I got stuck in traffic going to the right facility. I had a busy day at work and then got stuck in extremely heavy traffic coming home. When I got home my day got a bit better. My new MBA class starts this week. It looks to be interesting but it also looks like it will be a large amount of work. The instructor expects 2000 words per week and an additional 3000 words paper on top of quizzes and tests. We went out to the pub at the end of the street for Parma night. I have been trying to take Damien for over a year now. He loved it and I was excited.
Friday was Cann River day. I have a big weekend this week with the marathon so I flew up. It was a tad on the expensive side but work will pay the difference so it's not too bad. Damien dropped me at the airport at 6:30 I took a tiny green plane to a tiny airport in southern New South 'Whales'
Yes that's right. No terminal just a detached check-in shed. It makes the Morgantown airport look huge. I then rented a car and drove down to Cann River. I got there at 10am. My schedule was all over the place. Only 1 of my 8 patients came in on their own, the rest needed a call to be reminded. Only 1(a different 1) had a legitimate physiotherapy problem. Man. Craziness but everyone was lovely and I had a great day. After work I drove back to New South wales and I stayed in Eden. September-November is whale season in Eden so I grabbed dinner and set up shop to watch. The area was beautiful.  I saw a couple whales in the distance. I definitely saw some more and some dolphins  up close but I didn't get any pictures.
Eden also has a killer whale museum which looks amazing but was closed before I arrived.
The hotel where I stayed was pretty basic but the couple who owned it were lovely.

Damien and I went to the prom for the weekend(wilson's promontory). We got in a bit before sunset so we were able to enjoy some time at the campsite before dinner and star gazing. Saturday morning we woke up early and started on our long run/hike. We took a turnoff 200m in to go to a lookout. The view was spectacular.
But we had to bush bash back down to our track to continue on our way.
We ran along a dirt road in the sun for 15km until we reached the eastern coast.

Luckily there was plenty of wild life to keep us entertained.

The next bit of the the trail was very dense. There was a path for our feet but the shrubs were growing all around. About an hour later we made it to our next beach.
After the second beach we were back to very dense path, that disappeared. We tried to bash through for about 2 hours before realising that it was getting late and we weren't going to be able to finish the loop, so we turned back.
The sun began to set as we made it back down the long stretch of road.
We made it back around 7:30 and had a very quick dinner before collapsing into bed.
Sunday morning we were supposed to run a half marathon but I got cold feet and we did a 10km instead. It was out to tongue point and the views were stunning.
We ran the whole thing together. I was 3rd female but Damien was first male so he got a flashlight. After the race we spent a few more hours in the prom looking at the southern most mangroves in the world. I was so happy.
We headed back to Melbourne via a few wineries. We were hoping for lunch but with the busy weekend they were mostly sold out of food.

10/4/2015

We are on our way back from a long weekend and Damien is driving. Which gives me a chance to catch up on blogging. This was a very busy week. Monday I did 2 half days covering an extra shift at the nursing home in the morning and then treating private practice in the afternoon. Damien had requested a slow cooker banquet for dinner so I made that as well as twice baked potatoes.
Tuesday I was back to the nursing home in Craigieburn where I had worked last Tuesday. After work I met with a friend for coffee and a tax return. Taxes here are much more straight forward. Then I met Damien and Sarah for dinner in docklands. The place was lovely but the food was a bit sad.
Wednesday I had the day off work to do interviews for The university of Melbourne medical school and Doctor of physiotherapy admittance. It was quite fun. Afterward I did a bit of shopping before meeting Damien and his friend Charles for dinner. We went to Arbory which is located just next to platform 10 at flinder's street station.
The food was good but they also have the most incredible creation-espresso martinis on tap. Just like a beer. They pull a lever and there you go espresso martini!
On Thursday we went climbing. There is a new gym that just opened in Brunswick called Northside bouldering. It was very fun but much harder than regular climbing. For dinner we went to a Lebanese restaurant, we each got a management banquet. It was enormous and also delicious.
Friday I had a coffee interview and I have just accepted a job with a lymphoedema clinic in East Melbourne(much closer to home). Damien picked me up from the interview and we went to a friend's for lunch and ticket to ride. Then we headed down to the prom...to be continued.
